Dillon’s Betsy Varghese, was recently interviewed for Global News Peterborough about sustainably managing garbage in the City of Kawartha Lakes. As project manager of this waste disposal study, Betsy outlines the different ways the city can manage garbage, including landfill related options and alternative technology options.
The study recognizes that what’s in the garbage bag today will look different in 20 years and although we expect more waste diversion to occur, there will still be garbage that the City will need to manage. Dillon evaluated 9 options to manage garbage and considered the environmental, social and financial impacts for each. Expanding an existing landfill site was the highest ranking option.
