The City of Winnipeg, also known as “The Peg,” is the geographic centre of North America, with a population of approximately 671,000. Winnipeg is located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, commonly known as The Forks. For 6,000 years people have come to The Forks to hunt, trade, share stories and perform ceremonial rites. Today, The Forks is Winnipeg’s favourite public gathering place and the venue for the more than 100 community festivals throughout the year. Winnipeg is one of the most culturally diverse cities with some 100 languages represented.
